My "Word" for 2014

Each year, I see many bloggers picking their word of the year. Basically you pick one word instead of a bunch of resolutions. One word that you are going to focus on through the coming year.

I have picked one in the past just to forget about it. I don't think I have ever blogged about it but I didn't even look back to see. I wasn't going to pick a word for this year.

Last year, kind of sucked. There. I said it. Don't get me wrong. We had a lot of wonderful memories but I had a lot of failures too. More than I care to even think about. I had a lot of heart ache. A lot of fear. A lot of worry. I was glad to tell the year GOODBYE! The thing is just because you have a new year doesn't mean much. All of things are still going to carry over if I don't do something different. Brian always tells me that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result. Is that true? I'm not sure but it does make sense.

If I want things to change then I am going to have to do something. Faith is stepping out, right? I know from my own life that usually God does not just change things. He waits for ME to make a step in faith and then he comes to my rescue. So why do I wait so long to make that step? I'm not so sure.

Anyway, I wasn't going to pick a word for this year. Then I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom and a word just kind of came to me. Overcome. That's what I want to focus on this year. Overcome.

Not only do I want to overcome in a few areas, I want to BE an Overcomer. The first step for me is realizing I can not be an overcomer by myself. First, I have to take a step in faith and allow God to mold me. To change me. I have to let Him to become an Overcomer.

I am not going to make a list or mention all the areas I need to overcome but instead work on living a life of being an Overcomer.

One thing that I need to overcome is putting the past behind me. Instead of focusing on what I did NOT do or achieve in 2013, I am going to focus on what (as a family) we DID do.

~ I took part in a monthly Photo Challenge and did pretty well at stepping out of my comfort zone. (I stopped doing it because the prompts got weird!)
~ Our garden was the best we have ever had!
~ We canned applesauce, salsa, hot pepper mustard, pickles, banana peppers and jalapenos.
~ I got a new camera!
~ Carter shot his first buck!
~ We made marshmallow shooters
~ We survived camping in freezing weather
~ We were blessed with free tickets to an Indians game and had a blast
~ We fished
~ We swam
~ We visited Lake Erie
~ Brian and I celebrated 16 years of marriage
~ I was nominated for a few blogging awards
~ We spent time with extended family
~ We hiked
~ I took pictures of a wedding and a birth
~ A few struggling readers soared

See, Miranda!? What a great year. (Don't mind me while I talk to myself!)

Great word! And great list! Have you heard the song? By Mandisa? If not you should - this isn't spam, it's a link to the video. :)

Anyway. Thanks for linking up with Christian Fellowship Friday! Have a blessed year!
