Day 2 ~ I have to talk about ME?

Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at.

Nothing like making it difficult on Day 2! Couldn't we have waited until Day 10 or something?

What am I good at? I asked my family and there was a range of answers.

Brian ~ Didn't say anything. He just gave me the look. I reminded him that my blog was not rated R.
Taylor ~ "A lot of things"
Alyssa ~ "Cooking, Being a mom, Taking pictures"
Morgan ~ "Gardening"
Carter ~ "Everything"

Well that narrows it down, now doesn't it.

I decided to go with something that they did not say. Just keep in mind that I do not like talking about myself so you should feel very important to be reading this. :)

I am good at being a relaxed mom.

I am no means perfect. Far from it actually.

A few years ago, I decided to take a chill pill. Kids need to be kids. They need to have fun and be free to play, learn and explore. Obviously in a controlled environment and this by no means has anything to do with discipline!

I want my kids to look back on their childhood and remember that mom was fun! Remember that I was involved and present. Remember that I encouraged them to explore, be creative and enjoy life.
So what does it mean to be a relaxed mom? Well in my house this is what it means.....

~ I do not instantly say "No" to anything. Unless it is completely off the wall.
~ We take A LOT of rabbit trails during school.
~ We climb trees, play in creeks, stay up late, make weird concoctions and eat ice cream before dinner.
~ Eat dandelion salads (as you can see from the picture below someone mowed AROUND the dandelion) and research edible weeds and flowers.
~ Make worm bins and keep snakes as pets.
~ Ditch school to go on a hikes
~ Fish till 2 in the morning
~ Play with fire. Yep, you heard that right.

That is just a short list but I am sure you get the idea.

(Making a contraption to keep part of the fire smoldering to show daddy.)
Fortunately, I have really responsible kids. I think if you create a disciplined, God fearing, safe environment it is easier to be relaxed. My kids know that discipline is real and if they mess up or do something irresponsible they lose the ability to be as free. So its a win/win situation. Oh and to date we have had no broken bones, house fires or serious illness.

At the moment, they are purifying water over a fire they started with a magnifying glass!

Purifying water sounds like fun! I love dropping everything for a hike too. This is a great reminder to relax!

A truly relaxed mom would also keep marshmallows on hand for those fires. :-)
