G is for Got MIlk

I have been on a bit of a health kick lately. Don't worry I haven't gone off the deep end. At the moment I am drinking a Mt. Dew that I bought to help the Reese's go down a little easier.

I have, however, been slowly erasing some things from our diet. Store bought cereal, snacks with artificial colors and flavors, etc. I have been trying to make all of our bread but that is a bit difficult at times.

I make more from scratch and everyone actually enjoys it better. The kids have been helping me with cookies, granola, granola bars and other "snacks" for us to munch on though out the day.

I have been doing a lot of research on the effects of artificial junk including things in our shampoo and soap. Even things considered "natural" can be quite harmful.

So in my research I came across some article on milk. My family goes through about 6 gallons a week. A bit more if we do a lot of baking that requires milk.

I have been on the hunt for a different source for our milk. We obviously can not buy unpasteurized and having our own cow is not going to happen right now. Although I am hoping some day.

The other day I was at Buehlers (a local grocery store) and I came across Hartlzers milk. It came in a glass jar. (How cool is that!) When I opened it I thought I got a bad jar because it looked spoiled. Come to find out it actually still has the cream on the top of the milk! I was in love.

At Walmart, I spend about 4.30 a gallon. If I go to Drug Mart I can usually get milk for 3 dollars a gallon.

Hartlzers milk is about 3.50 for a half a gallon. So it is a bit more expensive but not crazy expensive.

Here is a link if you want to check out the benefits of their milk.

It sounds like it may be similar to the kind of milk I buy!

Just keep making small changes. Slow and steady wins the race! :D

P.S. I LOVE the oatmeal soap. I will be a regular customer for sure. :) Ami

I am so glad you like it!

Sometimes those changes can be a pain but I know its worth it in the end. Some things have been easier than I though to change and other things not so much. ;)

did you make butter from that cream?

I didn't. I do want to though with my next few jars that I get. :o)
