Volcano eruption and bird nest pickin!

I *try* to stay away from the computer on the weekends. Usually Brian gets done working in early afternoon and is off on Sunday so I try to stay focused on family time. Some times though I need a break!

Today Brian came home and took all the kids outside with him while he mowed. Yes, he is mowing!! I love it!

So between laundry I thought I would blog. :o)

This was a really fun school week. We finished up our volcano study and started learning about birds and animal homes.

Last week we made the volcano. We let it dry real good over the weekend and this week we exploded it!

This was our creation before the explosion. I think it turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself!

The kids (and very anxiously waiting.

Look at Taylor. Too funny. I think she is hoping none of it gets on her!

Love the look on Alyssa's face here.

They all still talk about how "cool" it was! :o) They say next time we are going to make one that is huge and the explosion is 10 times this one. Haha!

Our mess after the explosion!

We started learning about birds and their nests. I had the kids go out find an old birds nest. They found a few that must have fallen out of the pine tree.

They all drew pictures of the nests.

Then we dove in and got our hands messy!

I was a little hesitant at first. My ears were still ringing with mom telling me not to mess with bird feathers or bird nests because they were full of germs. I just made them wash their hands real good! ;)

Next week we are going to move on to different animal homes and homes in different cultures, including castles and knights!

Carter has already snagged the library books I got and made a shield and a sword!

Looks like a great week! We did a volcano once a couple of years ago - very fun. :^)
